Hawaii V3
Oahu Trip Recap
We just got back from Oahu and, weirdly, we’re really jet lagged. I wasn’t ready for it this time—even going in the other direction. I was up at 4 or 5am for the first three days. Not complaining though. I actually like early mornings.
This was our first time on Oahu as a family. I think Lacy had been before, but I’d only ever been to Maui. The hotel was incredible—huge apartment for our little crew: Mumsy, the Boy and me, Lacy’s brother John and his wife Liv with their two girls, and of course, Grandma came along to bring the party. What really tipped this place over the Maui hotel was the lagoon—the perfect, kid-friendly way to swim in the ocean. Such a good spot.
A couple of highlights stood out:
Waimea Bay waterfall hike
The Polynesian Cultural Centre
The Waimea hike was mellow—mostly paved, which worked out great because the Boy wanted to ride in the stroller. So many cool plants and trees along the way, and the waterfall itself was beautiful. Everyone had to wear life jackets to swim, which felt a bit overkill, but I guess they were worried about getting sued. Still, you can’t go wrong with floating under a waterfall with your family.
The Polynesian Cultural Centre was awesome. It’s like a sampler of all the Polynesian islands, including New Zealand, which was cool to see. I’d recommend it to anyone. The big standout was the final show: HĀ: Breath of Life. Dancing, drums, lights—it’s a full-on production. I couldn’t get any pictures of this unfortunately, they were super staunch about any photos or video being taken. The best part was watching how locked in the Boy was. He didn’t take his eyes off it. Best thing about kids is all the firsts, that was his first big live show. What an experience <3
My first live show was Jesus Christ Superstar with all Aussie music industry legends, I’ll never forget that.
Honestly, I never thought I’d be an island holiday guy. If I didn’t have a family, I probably still wouldn’t be. But now? I love this shit. Beach days with Mumsy and the Boy are the best. Throw in some extended family and it’s a full-blown party.
Photos below—I won’t be offended if no one reads this or looks at them :)
