Killah Priest

Portraits with Killah Priest
Over the weekend, I had the chance to take portraits of Killah Priest from Wu-Tang—something I never imagined I’d get to say. If you told 17-year-old me this would happen one day, I don’t think he would’ve believed it.

It went down like this—every now and then, Overload hosts TSM Media, a skateboarding culture podcast. This time around, TSM was interviewing Fabrizio ‘The Breeze’ Santos (a 2000s skateboarding legend) and Killah Priest. I asked BK if I could bring some lights and set up a little photo booth-style portrait setup. He was down.

I went with a red curtain backdrop, a softbox, and a flash with a red filter on the lamp head—mostly inspired by the black-and-red aesthetic of Priest’s new album cover. My only worry was that he might show up in a green tee and we’d end up with some accidental Christmas-themed portraits. Luckily, he rolled through in a white tee—perfect.

Priest was an absolute legend. He dapped up everyone, took photos with anyone who asked, and when I asked if we could recreate an old album release poster pose, he said yes without hesitation. The shot turned out dope and I’m super stoked with how it all came together.

Photos from the event are below.
